Knockout football.

History within reach.

London City Lionesses return to the CopperJax Community Stadium tonight for an Adobe Women’s FA Cup clash against Tottenham Hotspur, with kick-off set for 7:30pm.

A place in the quarter-finals is on the line, a stage the club has never reached before. One game. Ninety minutes. Everything to play for.

Head Coach Eder Maestre described it perfectly in his pre-match press conference:

“It’s a very special competition. It’s a knockout competition showed all over the world with a unique chance to beat the others. All of the romantics of this sport love this competition.”

Under the lights in Bromley, with our fans behind us, it promises to be special.

London City Lionesses

London City come into this fixture determined to write another chapter in what has already been a historic season.

After promotion into the Barclays Women’s Super League, the London City have continued to show growth, resilience and attacking quality against top opposition.

Last time out in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup, Eder Maestre’s side travelled to Sunderland and secured a hard-fought victory to book their place in this round.

Wassa Sangaré’s powerful header proved decisive on a difficult afternoon, marking Maestre’s first win as Head Coach and demonstrating the squad’s character in tough conditions.

In the league, performances have shown clear progression — recently competing toe-to-toe with top WSL and UWCL sides, and continuing to build belief with every match.

Individually, there has been further reason for celebration.

Poppy Pattinson earned her first senior England call-up last week, following outstanding performances in recent weeks. She will travel to train with the English national team alongside club teammate and “complete game changer,” as Maestre described her, Freya Godfrey.

Speaking on the squads’ call-ups, Maestre said:

“Being the coach and providing context to improve players, watching this reward with the national team it’s completely a pleasure for me. I’m very pleased and I hope I can help more players reach this reward in the future.”

But tonight is about the collective.

“Playing at home with the fans supporting us, the atmosphere will be incredible,” Maestre added.

“These are unique and special experiences and hopefully we can beat Tottenham and have a party in front of the fans on Monday.”

Opposition Overview: Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur arrive in Bromley as established WSL opposition in a strong table position and will be looking to progress deep into this year’s Adobe Women’s FA Cup competition.

Spurs have shown their attacking firepower throughout the season, capable of scoring goals from all areas of the pitch. Their recent form has highlighted their ability to rotate and still find different match-winners, making them a dangerous knockout opponent.

The visitors also come into this game high on confidence, beating Aston Villa 7-3 last time out in one of the most entertaining top-flight games this season across the league.

They did it with six different goalscorers, with Signe Gaupset, Bethany England, Olivia Holdt, Cathinka Tandberg, Maika Hamano and Julie Blakstad all getting on the scoresheet.

Tottenham Hotspur had to get past WSL opposition to book their place in the fifth round, and cruised past Leicester City thanks to goals courtesy of Beth England and substitutes Drew Spence and Lenna Gunning-Williams.

With international experience throughout their squad and strong depth in attacking areas, Tottenham will pose a significant test.

The Last Meeting

The last time these two sides met, it was electric.

A 4-2 victory for London City in a thrilling encounter that showcased how good of a matchup this is, with both sides fearless and forward-thinking.

Nikita Parris bagged a goal in her 200th WSL appearance, an incredible achievement from a legend of English football.

Freya Godfrey delivered a Player of the Match performance, scoring twice and providing an assist in a statement display.

After the game, she beamed: “I’m very good, I’m very happy,

“My dad said it to me last night, I’ve never scored a WSL goal before, and he said what a day it would be if you got a brace against Spurs!
