London City Lionesses produce a ruthless attacking display to beat Tottenham Hotspur 4–2 in BR2.
Sunday 9th November | CopperJax Community Stadium
A brace for Freya Godfrey, a goal for Nikita Parris on her 200th WSL appearance and an own goal sealed a memorable 4-2 victory for London City, against Spurs on Remembrance Sunday afternoon.

Jocelyn Prêcheur’s team delivered one of their most complete performances of the season, recording one of their most exciting WSL wins to date at the CopperJax Community Stadium.
It took just eight minutes for City to strike. Kosovare Asllani’s corner was half-cleared, but only as far as Freya Godfrey, who guided a precise effort into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
The hosts were flying in the early knockings, with Rofiat Imuran a constant menace down the left, gliding past defenders and sparking attack after attack.

Grace Geyoro went close to doubling the lead shortly after, before Spurs levelled against the run of play when Cathinka Tandberg converted from the spot in the 38th minute.
But City came out firing after the break. Nikita Parris, making her 200th WSL appearance, restored the lead five minutes into the second half, sliding in to meet Godfrey’s low cross at the back post to mark the milestone in style.

Tottenham found another equaliser through Eveliina Summanen’s superb free kick on 69 minutes, but the drama was far from over.
The home side’s response was immediate and ruthless. Wassa Sangaré’s clever flick in a crowded box did enough to confuse Spurs and Amanda Nildén, who turned the ball into her own net from close range to make it 3–2 on 81 minutes.

Three minutes later, Godfrey capped her sensational display with a moment of brilliance, gliding past her marker with a step-over before curling into the far corner to seal the win.
Godfrey’s two goals and one assist made her an easy choice for Player of the Match, while Prêcheur’s side showed the quality and mentality across the board to challenge anyone in the league.

“We knew it would be a tough game heading into the match,” said Prêcheur. “I am very satisfied with the victory. If you want to reach a good level, you need to be able to perform in different ways.
“It’s a balance. Defensively and offensively we were very strong and we were efficient.”
“They (Freya Godfrey and Nikita Parris) are both hugely important players for us. They are different players, the way they play, the stage they are in their careers.
“Freya is a talented young player and is starting to build some great confidence and she will continue to develop.
"Nikita Parris is a legend of English football. I don’t know if people really realise what 200 games in the WSL means, it’s massive, it’s impressive.
This weekend’s results leave London City Lionesses in sixth place in the Barclays Women’s Super League, just three points off the top four.

Prêcheur finalised: "We already know how tough the WSL is. We gave a strong performance offensively. Although last week was a good performance, it’s hard when you do not get the result so I hope this provides confidence.
“The team will keep improving. Consistency is key and it isn’t about one game. Our focus now immediately turns to Aston Villa next week.”
Next up, we travel to face Aston Villa at the Villa Park on Sunday 16th November, before returning home to the CopperJax Community Stadium on Sunday 7th December to host Brighton & Hove Albion.
It’s another positive step forward in our inaugural WSL season — confident, cohesive, and quietly building something special in BR2.
