Last Time Out

Last time out, London City Lionesses put in a strong performance against Chelsea – who have an unbeaten run in the Barclays Women’s Super League spanning over three seasons – but ultimately couldn’t find the net.

Despite a spirited display in the sunshine at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea’s quality proved decisive as Ellie Carpenter and Sam Kerr found the net to secure all three points for the hosts.

With many positives from the performance, the biggest shining light was Poppy Pattinson, who come off the bench to make her first competitive appearance for the club after her injury.

Where to Watch

Jocelyn Prêcheur's Press Conference

On Tottenham Hotspur:

"Tottenham have made has a very good evolution this season, and I think the arrival of the new coach as a new dynamic he started is very positive compared last season.

“I can feel the confidence of the group is so much better, their organisation also. They are doing a great job.

“I'm not surprised, because Tottenham have always had great players and very talented players. Now they have the good environment and probably the good cohesion to express themselves and perform, and that's why they are forced in the table.

“I like they are very disciplined defensively, speaking, very aggressive on the ball. They are smart switching, sometimes pressing very high, sometimes very more compact. They have a middle block, it is complicated to go through.

“They are quite impressive, another challenge for us, but this is the kind of game we want to play. This game is very exciting for us, because Tottenham is performing very well this season."

On Grace Geyoro and Midfield Balance:

"First, Grace is a very competitive player, so she wants to win whenever she

plays, and she is very helpful for me to build this team.

“This is a winning culture which takes a long time, even for example during our training. She’s adapting well and she's strong, physically speaking.

“The balance in the midfield, she's very helpful in possession and out of possession to bring this balance. I think the cohesion she has at the moment with (Kosovare) Asllani and (Saki) Kumagai is very interesting in the midfield.

“She takes a lot of her English lesson to improve her English, because I can feel she wants to communicate a lot, she's a natural leader. So now she's a little frustrated because her English is not as good as it should be, but she works on it, and as soon as she will improve on that point too.”

On Experience and Youth Development:

“What it takes, what we need, to become very high level athletes, when we have so many young players, for a coach, is very valuable to have this link on the squad.

“Grace (Geyoro) is one of them. Kosse (Asllani), Saki (Kumagai), Nikita (Parris), Elena (Linari) and many more, for example, are also very good link for me to share this experience and explain to this new generation.

“They young players are very talented, but talent is not enough, and if we want to go where we want to go, if we want to respect the ambitions of Michele (Kang), we need to work hard, and there is a discipline to build a culture.

“Developing players. You don't know how much time it will take, it depends on how talented they are, how serious they are, and how hard they work…

“I believe our players can. If you look at Isobel Goodwin, Freya Godfrey, Wassa Sangaré or Lucía Corrales, even if she didn't play against Chelsea, the adaptation is quite impressive for me.”

On Injuries and Team News:

"Teyah Goldie has trained normally all this week, and now she's available to play and physically speaking, she feels very well.

“The conditioning of Poppy (Pattinson) is improving, and she feels better and better. I think she's not yet at 100% but when she came in against Chelsea, it was positive, and she made a good training week.

“Isa Kardinaal, she started to run and even touches the ball now. She doesn't train with the squad at the moment, but it will be very soon, I think, hopefully next week.

"The injury of Lucía (Corrales) when she came back from Spain seems more serious than we thought. She has a cartilage issue on the on the knee.

"The next two weeks for Daniëlle van de Donk will be crucial to see if we are close to come back, or if, unfortunately, it will be longer.

"Sofia Jakobsson had a small pain, a few things we need to solve, but she restarted to train normally with us.

"Corinne Henson, she had hamstring problem at the moment, so it's a very hard time for her.

"Emily Orman is working very well. The good point when you have an arm issue is you can keep training. She's improving very well on her possession at the moment."

On Nikita Parris:

"Keets! She is adapting very well. She's a natural leader on pitch, technically speaking, but also in the changing room. I mentioned before in the previous question, Grace (Geyoro) was a competitive player, but Nikita is also a very competitive player, which is important for me.

“I give her more and more responsibilities because she represents a lot what I want, what I want to build in London City."

On our home form:

“I think it’s important, maybe we don’t have as many fans as the other clubs at the moment, but they are real fans, they are important for us.

“They are more and more, we want to make them proud, we want to convince them they are right to follow us, because something is happening in London City.

“We desperately need their support and home games are definitely something special.

“At home, we have not an extra pressure, but another source of motivation that can make the difference, and hopefully it will make the difference on Sunday.”
