A performance to be proud of and plenty of positives to take, but the reigning champions took all three points at Stamford Bridge.
Saturday 1st November | Stamford Bridge
London City Lionesses put in a strong performance against Chelsea – who have an unbeaten run in the Barclays Women’s Super League spanning over three seasons – but ultimately couldn’t find the net.
Despite a spirited display in the sunshine at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea’s quality proved decisive as Ellie Carpenter and Sam Kerr found the net to secure all three points for the hosts.

Sonia Bompastor's side almost took the lead inside two minutes after London City lost the ball playing out of the defence, but Wassa Sangaré was there to make a clearance off the line.
Grace Geyoro then charged through the Blues’ midfield, only to drag her shot just wide of the post.
Ellie Carpenter drew first blood for Chelsea, burying Sandy Baltimore’s deep cross to the back post with six minutes on the clock.
Izzy Goodwin came close twice before the interval. First, she latched onto a perfectly weighted through ball from Freya Godfrey, but goalkeeper Hannah Hampton was out quickly to smother the chance.

Minutes later, Geyoro intercepted Sjoeke Nüsken in midfield and teed up Goodwin again, but her effort flew over the bar.
London City continued to push for a goal, and Linari came closest before the break, rifling and effort into the top corner but narrowly missing the target.
The visitors carried that same intensity into the second half. In the 51st minute, Godfrey created space with a clever step-over before striking at goal, but her effort was comfortably gathered by Hampton.

Further chances fell to Goodwin, Kosovare Asllani, Nikita Parris, and substitute Lotta Lindström, but despite their persistence, the equaliser wouldn’t come.
Deep into stoppage time, substitute Kerr sealed the result for Chelsea, lobbing the ball into the net from a tight angle to make it 2–0.
After the match, Head Coach Jocelyn Prêcheur reflected positively on his team’s performance: “I am disappointed with the result because the performance was so much better than against other top four teams so far this season.

“We created a number of strong chances during the game which was pleasing but we need to score if we want to compete and get a result.
“There were lots of positive points. We start to see a team, create cohesion with a huge number of new players and I’m satisfied from that perspective.
“I am pleased with the foundations we are building.
“There are plenty of areas we can improve on and we will continue to work hard to do so.”

We are next in action at home against Tottenham Hotspur in the WSL next week.
