London City Lionesses return to Barclays Women’s Super League action today as we welcome Everton to the CopperJax Community Stadium.
With momentum building on and off the pitch under Eder Maestre, this fixture arrives at an important moment in the season. London City come into the contest off the back of a win last time out against Brighton, moving them up to 6th in the WSL.
The visitors travel south looking to respond following a period of transition, with Scott Phelan replacing Brian Sørensen in the dugout, despite winning 2-1 against Aston Villa last time out.
The Toffees sit in 9th, and with valuable points on the line, this promises to be another competitive WSL encounter.

London City Lionesses: Building Momentum
London City Lionesses arrive into today’s fixture in confident mood, after a strong performance last time out at the CopperJax Stadium against league leaders Manchester City.
Sandwiched between the last home game and our Everton fixture was an away trip to Brighton, which saw us collect three points thanks to a Freya Godfrey stunner late in the first half.

The atmosphere at the CopperJax Community Stadium last time out was the best it has been yet and today presents another opportunity to turn home support into a decisive factor as the team look to carry that momentum forward.
Â
A Chance to Make History
There is added significance to today’s contest against Everton.
Earlier this season, London City travelled to Goodison Park and secured the club’s first-ever Barclays Women’s Super League victory, with Izzy Goodwin scoring twice in a memorable Friday night on Merseyside.

Today, we have the opportunity to do something new once again, completing a first WSL double over an opponent in our club’s history.
It is another chance to build on the foundations already laid this season and continue writing new chapters in the club’s top-flight journey.
Â
Opposition Overview: Everton Women
Everton arrive in London following a change in the dugout, with Scott Phelan taking charge of the Women’s team as Interim Head Coach for the remainder of the season.
Phelan steps up from Everton’s Finch Farm Academy and brings over a decade of coaching experience within the Club’s pathway.
On the pitch, Everton’s squad features a blend of senior internationals and emerging talent, with experience across domestic leagues and major international tournaments, with London City Head Coach Eder Maestre explaining in his press conference that he knows the dangers Everton possess having faced some of their players during his time in Spain.
They will be aiming to show resilience and organisation as they look to pick up points on the road this weekend, building on a 2-1 win against Aston Villa in their previous fixture.

Â
Press Conference
Read the main talking points from Eder Maestre’s press conference below.
Â
On Delphine Cascarino:
"Delphine has suffered an injury, and she will be out for between five and six weeks. We will see how she will recover moving forwards, because she was training very well.
"It’s disappointing as she was training really well."

Â
On Malou Marcetto:
"I am pleased to have her in this squad, and she’s a player I know very well from the Spanish league. She’s a talented young player and I’ve suffered against her before!
"The moment was so fast, she’s still settling in. She’s a flexible player, as she is very talented and can play in the ‘6’, ‘8’, and ‘10’ roles.
"She has showed that she can play all of these positions, and it gives us the option to be less predictable in midfield so it’s a nice to have."

Â
On Everton’s Managerial change:
"When the manager comes in, he will have new ideas and we are completely blind as to how they will manage the team.
"We need to be ready for the contest, and this game is all about being ready and prepared for whatever comes our way."
Â
The January Transfer Window:
"I’m happy with the players I have. The players are training really well, they’re very focused and I’m very happy with the squad I’ve got at the moment."
