Season of success continues for LCL Shenfield

Now into its second academic year, the London City Lionesses partnership with Shenfield High School is seeing great progress on the pitch.

The LCL Shenfield U18 girls have reached the quarter final of the ESFA National Super League Cup on Sunday 9th January, after beating a very strong Blenheim School 3-2 in the last 16 knockout.

The girls started the game on the front foot and scored a very well worked opener with I.Tomlin providing the assist for an excellent E.Jennings finish.

After Blenheim equalised the score at half time was 1-1. LCL Shenfield came out for the second half with an outstanding desire scoring two more goals with E.Jennings netting her second and L.Bevan making it 3-1 with a header.

Blenheim scored late but the LCL Shenfield girls hung on for the win.

This latest victory is the newest in a succession of strong results for Shenfield.

Speaking ahead of the teams next game, a last 32 fixture in the ESFA National Schools Cup, scheduled for Friday 14th January, Paul Preston, football academy lead teacher, had this to say.

“We have been absolutely over the moon with the progress of our girls this season,” said Mr Preston. “With it being only our second season of the girl’s academy and partnership running, the achievements so far are outstanding, and it is only just the start.

“We cannot wait to see this blossom further over the coming years and are confident of some national success.

“For the girls to reach the quarter final of the ESFA National Super League Cup and the last 32 of the ESFA National Schools Cup so far has probably exceeded our expectations.”

Mr Preston went on to add.

“We are confident of an equally good run in the ESFA Schools Cup with the last 32 fixture at home on Friday.

“Recruitment has gone really well for next year and the interest has been very pleasing. We can't wait for the next group of year 12s to join alongside this current cohort.

“Anyone interested in joining this journey feel free to get in touch.”
