Lotta Lindström and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah scored in the final minutes to stun Charlton Athletic and fire London City Lionesses to a remarkable comeback win on Sunday [24 March].

Melisa Filis broke the deadlock for the hosts within five minutes of kick-off, beating Grace Moloney with a pinpoint shot into the top corner.

However, Remi Allen’s side never looked out of the battle and produced a spirited response in the remaining minutes, with Danielle Carter closest to levelling the score shortly after the restart.

Lindström, who replaced Paige Satchell with twenty minutes to play, started the comeback party, heading Boye-Hlorkah’s whipped delivery beyond the reach of Jessica Gray in the final minute of regulation time.

Boye-Hlorkah added her name to the scoresheet three minutes later, breaking through on goal one-on-one before floating the ball over Gray and into the back of the net.

With Watford, Lewes, Reading, and Durham losing elsewhere, London City move six points clear of the drop zone with three fixtures left to play.

“I don’t even know what to think,” Allen told reporters at full-time.

“I’m just really proud of the players, they stuck with it, and I believe that we were the better side throughout the game. Having the perseverance to stick with it and come out with the win is absolutely brilliant.

“Our job is to move away from the relegation zone and put ourselves in a good place. There’s three big games to go, nothing is done yet, but we’ll enjoy it today and rock on when we go back to training to get ready for the week ahead.”
