London City Lionesses produced a dominant second-half performance to overcome Southampton in the Barclays Women’s Championship at Hayes Lane on Sunday [15 December].
Isobel Goodwin continued her fine form in front of goal, scoring her eighth league goal of the season on either side of strikes from Kosovare Asllani and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah as Jocelyn Prêcheur’s team raced to a 3-1 victory.
Emily Orman withstood pressure at the other end, denying Lucia Kendall’s ambitious 25-yard effort in the final minutes of the first-half.
Emma Thompson appeared from the bench to record a late consolation goal for Southampton, with London City climbing to third in the standings as a result of their win over the Saints.
“We have to admit that the other teams in the league are also very strong and have many good players,” Prêcheur told BBC Radio London on Tuesday. “It will be a very good fight until the end of the season.
“Michele’s project is very clear – we want to be promoted to the Women’s Super League as quickly as possible. This is our ambition and we will work very hard to do that. If we can do it in one season, perfect."
Tickets are now on sale for our final four home fixtures of the season, with Sunderland AFC, Blackburn Rovers, Sheffield United, and Durham to visit Hayes Lane in 2025.
