London City return to WSL action – where they are unbeaten in two – against Chelsea on Saturday.

It’s been a busy start to the season for the newly-promoted side, and tests don’t get much bigger than the reigning champions, away at Stamford Bridge, in a London derby.

We’re live on Sky Sports Premier League this weekend, and here is our full match preview ahead of matchday.

Last Time Out

Last time out, under overcast skies at the CopperJax Community Stadium, London City Lionesses fell to a narrow 1–0 defeat against Leicester City in the Subway Women’s League Cup.

An early strike from Jutta Rantala proved decisive, as the Leicestershire outfit held firm despite a late onslaught from the home side.

Opposition Overview

Our opponents have an incredible unbeaten record, spanning over three seasons in the WSL, as Sonia Bompastor’s side go into this fixture 31 games unbeaten in the league.

This season, the Blues sit at the top of the table, having racked up wins against Manchester City, Aston Villa, Leicester City, West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur.

Lucy Bronze, Niamh Charles and Naomi Girma are back in contention for the game against London City, but Aggie Beaver-Jones, Lauren James and Mayra Ramirez are doubts.

This game will be the first time the two sides have played each other in the league, but there are many connections between the two clubs.

The Chelsea boss, Sonia Bompastor, knows Jocelyn Prêcheur very well, and has also worked for a Kynisca-owned club in OL Lyonnes.

Prêcheur been in the dugout against Bompaster before, and has worked with current Chelsea star Sandy Baltimore, who played in the most recent French squad with Wassa Sangaré and Grace Geyoro.

Emily Orman, Cerys Brown and Sofia Jakobsson have all played for Chelsea in previous years, too.
