Maddi Wilde produced a standout performance as London City Lionesses won 3-0 over Blackburn Rovers on Sunday [5 November].
Speaking after the match, the Bristol City loanee lifted the lid on an outing that saw her register a goal and an assist.
After a brilliant team and individual performance, can you summarise your thoughts on the game?
It was really positive, all of the girls played well, and we’re happy to take three points back to London. It’s always really nice to help the team, so I’m pleased with my goal.
You must also be pleased with a clean sheet, considering you usually play in defence…
For me, clean sheets are what I take pride in, so knowing that we kept clean sheet is a really important step. We were all a bit excited and got a little bit ahead of ourselves [after scoring three goals in the first twenty minutes], but it was good to kill the game off early. In previous games, we’ve taken the lead, but have let the other team back into it.
Today, we managed to kill it off in the first block of the game, which made us more comfortable with the ball and meant that any mistakes that we made didn’t kill us.
From your perspective, is that the team’s best performance this season?
I think so. We’ve had a lot of good performances but have let ourselves down with silly mistakes. We were consistent throughout the whole game today and managed the flow much better. We didn’t go full throttle in the wrong moments, made sure that we didn’t expose ourselves, and earned a result that we can hopefully build on.
With the Birmingham City match in mind, does this result and performance add a little bit more confidence to the mix?
I don’t think we should get complacent now, we need to keep these habits and push on. We just need to keep this momentum and hopefully we can take away another three points next week.
