London City Lionesses are delighted to announce the signing of Karin Muya ahead of the 2021/22 season, subject to international clearance.
Muya joins the Pride with a wealth of playing experience from across Europe and the U.S. She played last season in the Serie A with San Marino F.C., where she made 18 appearances with 15 starts for the Italian club. The season before, Muya came from French Feminine Division 2 with Orobica.
Before moving over to Europe to play professionally, the England international played with top Division 1 football university, Notre Dame, from 2014 to 2019 in the ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference). ACC coaches selected Muya for third team All-ACC at the end of the 2018/19 season. She continued playing with Notre Dame as a graduate where she led the team scoring seven goals and earned 15 points, setting career highs in both categories at the university.
Similarly to fellow London City Lionesses signing Fleming, Muya started her playing career with Chelsea F.C. academy, joining the club at the age of 10 rising through the ranks to the First Team. Muya won the league title and FA Girls’ Youth Trophy with the Blues U17 squad in the 2011/12 season.
The 26-year-old has represented England U19's at the 2014 Euro qualifiers and at U19 level in the La-Manga three-match event.
Head Coach Melissa Phillips said, “Karin is a pacey and dynamic attacker with quality to play in multiple positions. She’s got incredibly high level experiences in England, the US and Italy. We look forward to how her versatility and experience will add value to our team at London City.”
Muya shared her thoughts on joining LCL and said, "Everyone has been so warm and welcoming. [I'm] really excited to get going and be part of the LCL team."
