Group Stage Round-Up: Our London City Lionesses at EURO 2025

As the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 group stage draws to a close, London City Lionesses proudly reflect on the performances of our four international representatives, each of whom played a vital role for their countries on Europe’s biggest stage.

Sweden

Kosovare Asllani and Sofia Jakobsson have progressed into the knockout stages with Sweden after the perfect start to their EURO 2025 tournament.

Asllani has led by example in Switzerland, registering a goal involvement in every game in the tournament for Sweden.

Sweden beat Denmark 1-0 in the opening group stage game, crushed Poland 3-0 in the second game, and put Germany to the sword in the final group stage game, ramping up a 4-1 win to see them top Group C.

Asllani has recorded an assist in every game for Sweden so far and featured on the scoresheet against Poland as well.

Asllani and Jakobsson’s attention now switches to Thursday night, as Sweden face England in a crucial quarter-final.

Netherlands

Despite a strong start, the Netherlands narrowly missed out on a place in the quarter-finals, falling short in a competitive group featuring England and France.

Daniëlle van de Donk shone in their opening match against Wales, providing two assists in a 3-1 victory.

Tough results followed – with defeats to England and France — but van de Donk’s influence remained brilliant. She was a standout performer against France, completing the most dribbles, winning all of her tackles, and taking 49 touches.

Finland

It was heartbreak for Sanni Franssi and Finland, who exited the tournament on goal difference after a dramatic late equaliser from hosts Switzerland.

Finland started strong with a win over Iceland, before falling to an in-form Norway side. In their final group match, Franssi’s side led from the 79th minute, only to be denied a quarter-final place in the 92nd, as Riola Xhemaili struck late for the hosts.

Everyone at London City Lionesses is incredibly proud of Kosovare, Sofia, Daniëlle, and Sanni for representing their nations with such professionalism.

We look forward to welcoming Daniëlle and Sanni back to Cobdown Park and can’t wait to see the rest of Kosse and Sofia’s EURO 2025 journey unfold.
