The Lionesses advanced to the fourth round of the Vitality Women's FA Cup with a 1-0 win over Portsmouth on Sunday [8 January], marking the squad's return from the winter break.

While the match was played on home soil at Princes Park, London City dressed in salmon pink and grey kits — provided by Capelli Sport — to celebrate our new partnership with, the world-leading retails space for women's football.

Here is the story of the match in eight photos:

London City exchange blows with Portsmouth in the opening minutes, with Nicole Barrett taking a throw at the five-minute mark.

Sarah Ewens leads the line for the Lionesses, dropping deep to unsettle the away side's defence in the first-half.

The Lionesses take the lead with a shot that creeps over the line, prompting a shocked reaction from match-winner Harley Bennett.

... and now the rest of the team joins the captain in celebration!

With London City ahead, the midfield battle heats up as half-time races into view.

'TEAM!' The Lionesses huddle up before the second half begins.

Rain disrupts the flow of play after the break, creating the feel of a classic FA Cup tie.

Rianna returns! Jarrett enters as 74th-minute substitute for her first appearance in nearly a year.

The Lionesses will travel to the Breyer Group Stadium to face Tottenham Hotspur in round four. Further details will be confirmed in due course.
