Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah: 'Remi has had a massive impact'

Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah felt the lasting effects of being at the bottom of a bundle on Sunday [24 March].

The Englishwoman scored London City Lionesses’ 94th minute winner in a breathless comeback win over Charlton Athletic and was instantly mobbed by her celebrating teammates.

After the match, Boye-Hlorkah spoke with reporters. Here is every word she said.

An incredible win for the team, what are your thoughts after that?

We switched off a little bit for the goal that we conceded, but we dug deep and managed to come out in the second half and get the win. We left it late, little Lotta and then myself [scoring], but we’re thrilled with the three points.

Talk us through your goal…

I was actually talking to the centre half on the halfway line trying to make her switch off and then just ran out to the loose ball. My legs started cramping towards the end and I thought I’d put it wide if I shot so I kept going, dinked it, and it went in.

Three massive points today to make it three wins in a row, how has the mood changed in recent weeks?

I think the mood has massively changed and has swung in a positive direction. Remi [Allen] has had a massive impact. I used to play with her as a player [at Aston Villa], but I didn’t know how good she is as a manager.

She’s put us on the right track, making us better defensively and giving us the freedom to run in behind. We’ve put in the work and everyone is buying into the plan she’s created.

What was the message from Remi at half-time?

It was just to keep doing what we were doing and to make sure that we weren’t switching off defensively. She wanted us to be calm on the ball and to play with speed. I think we showed that in and out of possession, so we’re all really happy.
