Shae Yanez: 'Relentless effort' helped London City Lionesses outduel Charlton Athletic

London City Lionesses goalkeeper Shae Yanez was on cloud-nine after backstopping the squad to a clean sheet win over Charlton Athletic on Sunday [2 April].

The American made a series of important saves in a commanding performance between the posts, but was quick to praise her teammates when speaking to the media after the game.

"I think the relentless effort [is what pleases me the most about the game]," Yanez said. "The goal came in the 86th minute, which comes from not giving up and playing for the full 90 minutes. When you're not getting what you want, it can be frustrating. But we kept pushing and found a way to come away with the points.

By the end of the season, those points could make the difference for London City.

The Lionesses sit three points behind Bristol City in the title fight with three rounds left to play.

In other words, the promotion race is on and London City are in a strong position to challenge the Robins down the stretch.

"Today's win was really important. There are only three games left and it's really tight between first and fifth in the standings," Yanez added. "Anything can happen and every game matters at this point in the year."

Shae Yanez on goal-scorer Atlanta Primus:

Question: You're really good friends with Atlanta Primus, what is she like as a teammate?

She's my bestie. She's a grafter. She can be a bit shy when you first meet her, but she's the most loving and deserving players in the room when you get to know her.

Shae Yanez on her international break plans:

I think I'll have some recovery days and just take some time to rest up. We have three important games left, so recovery is key.
