London City Lionesses are delighted to confirm that Freya Godfrey has signed a new deal with the club until the summer of 2029.
The forward initially arrived on loan in January 2025 before securing a permanent move last summer, and in a short space of time, she has already written herself into some unforgettable London City moments.

From title-race contributions to statement performances in the top flight, Godfrey has delivered goals, assists, energy, and personality in a London City shirt.
To celebrate her new deal, we take a look back at seven special Freya Godfrey games so far.
1. Blackburn Rovers (H) 2024/25
After signing on loan in January 2025, Godfrey featured in the final seven games of London City’s run-in, playing an important role in the Club’s Barclays Women’s Championship triumph.
Her first major impact came at home to Blackburn Rovers, when she and Miljana Ivanović combined from the bench to secure three crucial points in the title race.
In the 84th minute, Godfrey raced in behind the Blackburn defence, poked the ball over Brooks, and into the path of Ivanović, who volleyed into an empty net.

It was a moment of composure, pace, and instinct: and a first real glimpse of the influence Godfrey would go on to have.
2. Southampton (A) 2024/25
After making an impact from the bench in her early appearances, everything seemed to click under the lights at St Mary’s.
Godfrey was electric against Southampton, linking up brilliantly with her England Under-23 teammate, Izzy Goodwin.

She assisted two of Goodwin’s three goals on the night, both delivered in almost identical fashion, showing her quality in wide areas and her ability to create clear chances for those around her.
Reflecting on the game, Godfrey said: “What a day, what a night! This was the game where I thought, yeah, I’m getting in my flow state.
“I couldn’t remember the last time I was this happy on a football pitch.”
3. Birmingham City (A) 2024/25
A day London City fans will never forget.

“What a day, just what a day,”
“I was just so happy. The nature of the game as well. I enjoyed Southampton because of how in control we were, and I felt so free. In contrast, the Birmingham game, squeaky bum time! Pure stress."
“I always knew we were going to win it.”
4. Tottenham Hotspur (H) 2025/26
After helping London City earn promotion to the Barclays Women’s Super League during her loan spell, Godfrey returned on a permanent deal ahead of the Club’s first season in the top flight.
Having missed the start of the campaign through injury, she announced herself at the highest level with a Player of the Match performance against Tottenham Hotspur.

The night before the game, Godfrey’s dad had made a bold prediction.
“My dad actually came up to me the night before the game against Spurs,” she said. “I was making my dinner, and he said, ‘First goal tomorrow, brace against Spurs.’
“He literally said to me, ‘brace against Spurs’!”
There was extra emotion behind the performance, too. After learning that two of her closest friends, Katie (Reid) and Michelle (Agyemang), had suffered ACL injuries, Godfrey had added motivation.
“I wanted to score for them,”
She did exactly that — twice.

Godfrey scored two goals, registered an assist, and took home Player of the Match honours in a stunning individual display.
It was the kind of performance that made people take notice, including Sarina Wiegman and England.
5. Manchester City (H) 2025/26
Godfrey picked her goal against Manchester City as her favourite of the season, and it was easy to see why.
Although London City were narrowly edged out by the eventual league champions, the performance showed just how far the team had come in its first WSL campaign.
Against one of the strongest sides in the division, Godfrey produced a moment of real quality, driving at the defence and finishing with confidence.

It was a goal that underlined her ability to make an impact against the very best.
6. Brighton & Hove Albion (A) 2025/26
Just a week after scoring against Manchester City, Godfrey was on the scoresheet again, this time helping London City secure three points away at Brighton & Hove Albion.
Her goal was another brilliant example of the trademark finish she has started to make her own.

Driving inside from the right wing, taking on her defender, and finishing with power and precision, Godfrey showed what makes her such a difficult player to contain.
Whether going left or right, aiming near post or far, she has developed a real ability to create space for herself and punish teams in decisive moments.
7. Aston Villa (H) 2025/26
The perfect ending to London City’s inaugural Barclays Women’s Super League campaign.
With the clock ticking into stoppage time against Aston Villa, Godfrey delivered one final moment of magic, scoring a 93rd-minute winner to secure all three points.

It was a fitting way to close the season, and more than anything, it felt like the perfect thank you to the London City supporters, whose incredible backing helped make the club’s first season in the top division so unforgettable.
