Sarah Ewens signs for the Lionesses

London City Lionesses are delighted to announce Sarah Ewens as the first new addition to the squad, ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Joining from Birmingham City, Ewens showed herself to be a constant threat for the midlands side, who signed her from Celtic, where she bagged 64 goals in 98 appearances for the Scottish side.

The Scottish international made the SWPL her own in her time with the hoops, being the only player to score against every side in the 2019-20 season.

Prior to joining the Glasgow club, Ewens played for Hibernian, where she would go onto win the Scottish medal in 2016.

On the international stage, Ewens has represented Scotland at both U17 and U19 level.

When asked how it feels to have signed for the Lionesses, Ewens said:

“I’m really excited and glad to be here.

“There’s a really good squad here so I'm buzzing to get going.

“For me, from my first chat with Mel, I really resonated with the values that she’s installed in the club, so I'm delighted to be here and can’t wait to get going.”

Speaking on the signing of Ewens, Head Coach, Melissa Phillips said:

“Sarah has quality in abundance and is versatile across the front line.

“We are delighted to have her in this season as she brings experiences from the highest level at both Celtic and in the WSL.

“She is a mature footballer that brings perspective and leadership to the squad alongside her competitive mentality.

“We are looking forward to working with Sarah and the value she will add both on and off the pitch. Welcome to London City!”
