Today’s opponents reached the quarter-finals last year, only to be knocked out by eventual finalists Manchester United.

Last time out, London City Lionesses drew against Liverpool in their first Barclays Women’s Super League fixture of 2026, and Head Coach Eder Maestre’s first game in charge, at BrewDog Stadium, St Helens.

The last time we faced Sunderland

Our first home game of 2025 was the last time we played the Lasses, as we wrapped up a 2-0 victory with a composed and clinical performance before our promotion to the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Goals courtesy of Isobel Goodwin and Kosovare Asllani earned London City Lionesses three points in the Women’s Championship on Sunday16th February.

Opposition Overview

Sunderland will head into this game with confidence after building up some positive results coming into this cup tie.

As underdogs on paper, and playing in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup, recent wins over Ipswich Town and Derby County will give the Lasses confidence heading into a game which has the odds stacked against them.

There are plenty of links between the two clubs, with former London City Lionesses Katie Kitching and Grace Moloney both in the Sunderland ranks this season, whilst Poppy Pattinson returns home to face the first club she played for at senior level.
