London City Lionesses
London City returned to domestic action last week against Arsenal, losing 2-0 at the CopperJax Community Stadium.
The main headline was that we SOLD OUT Bromley for the first time in our history – a huge moment in our club’s history, a landmark moment for the club and a statement of what’s to come.
Daniëlle van de Donk captained the club for the first time on her 100th Women’s Super League appearance, Malou Marcetto made her first start while Delphine Cascarino came off the bench her debut after recovering from an injury sustained following her January arrival.

Under Head Coach Eder Maestre, the group has shown resilience, adaptability and an ability to compete with established top-flight sides — laying strong foundations for the club’s future at this level.
With a big London crowd expected at The Den, London City will look to embrace the occasion once again and deliver a performance that reflects the ambition driving this team forward.

Opposition Overview: Chelsea
Chelsea arrive as one of the dominant forces in English and European football, with a squad packed full of international quality, experience and winning pedigree.
Chelsea currently sit second in the Barclays WSL, on a win streak of five games in all competitions.
Sonia Bompastor’s side recently won the Subway Women’s League Cup, beating Manchester United 2-0 courtesy of Lauren James and Aggie Beever-Jones finding the net.
Speaking ahead of the London City fixture, Bompastor acknowledged the challenge we present:
“They are a team who only just came into the WSL this season, but as you can see, they are already performing at a really good level.
We know every game until the end will be a challenge for us.

The match on Saturday will be tough because they have enough quality to hurt us, but on the other hand, we also have a lot of quality and will be prepared to perform at our best level.”
She also highlighted London City’s development across the campaign:
“They changed the manager, and I think probably London City are still a team who are looking for a playing style right now.
I’ve watched them in their previous matches, and I think they are doing well.
They have a strong squad, with a lot of experience and talented players. I'm expecting a tough game.”

Last Time Out
Last time out against the Blues, we put in a strong performance, against a team who, at the time, had an unbeaten run in the Barclays Women’s Super League spanning over three seasons.
Despite a spirited display in the sunshine at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea’s quality proved decisive as Ellie Carpenter and Sam Kerr found the net to secure a 2-0 win and all three points for the hosts.
