Lucy Fitzgerald thought she had seen it all at London City Lionesses.
The 23-year-old has been with us since the very start, providing the assist to Grace Neville on the Club's first goal.
But an international training camp was unchartered territory for London City and Fitzgerald — at least until this week.
The Kent-born forward spoke to londoncitylionesses.com on Thursday [8 August]; here is every word she said.
It's been a busy week, how have you found training camp?
It’s been really positive. It’s obviously been very intense because of the heat we’re training in, but it’s been good to get away into a different environment – that helps with team bonding and working on things as one big group.
This is the Club's first international tour — what does that mean to you as a player?
It shows that we’re heading in the right direction. When you travel as a whole group, everyone – the players and the staff – can bond together much more quickly. I think the trip shows how the Club’s professionalism is increasing.
It feels like we're making lots of progress in Murcia, will the camp help the team once the season starts?
Hopefully, it will be by the end – we’ve had a few meetings about what we want to achieve and do as a group this year. Togetherness is a big part of that and a trip like this is a great foundation and really does help. When we’re back in London, we’ll continue with that.
We're at the halfway mark of preseason — how are you feeling ahead of the new season?
Preseason has started well.
There were only a few of us training at the start because of the international window and the intensity has been gradually increasing since then. It’s been good to start with smaller sessions, which helps us understand how Jocelyn [Prêcheur] works. The Ipswich match was positive – the majority of us were playing together for the first time and there were plenty of positives to take.
