London City Lionesses’ Subway Players Cup Fixtures Confirmed for 2026/27

London City Lionesses’ fixtures for the 2026/27 Subway Players Cup have been confirmed, as the newly renamed competition introduces a player-focused format for the upcoming season.
Previously known as the Subway Women’s League Cup, the competition has been relaunched as the Subway Players Cup, with a new structure designed to provide more meaningful playing opportunities while placing player welfare at the heart of the tournament.
London City will play six matches during the competition’s opening League Phase, consisting of three home fixtures and three away fixtures against regionally drawn opposition.

We will kick off our Subway Players Cup league phase with three away days on the bounce, starting with Leicester City. After the first three games, we will play in three home games, starting with Crystal Palace.

What is the Subway Players Cup?
The Subway Players Cup is WSL Football’s newly renamed secondary domestic competition, featuring clubs from the Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Super League 2.
The competition has been reshaped following consultation with clubs, players and supporters, with its new format intended to balance playing opportunities across the women’s football calendar.
The three clubs competing in the 2026/27 UEFA Women’s Champions League will not participate due to their increased European schedule. This helps to reduce calendar congestion for those teams while offering additional competitive minutes to players at the remaining clubs.
The new approach is also intended to create more opportunities for squad rotation, emerging talent and players who may otherwise receive fewer minutes during the season.
How does the new League Phase work?
The traditional group stage has been replaced by a Swiss-style League Phase, which will be played primarily during UEFA Women’s Champions League match rounds.
All 23 participating clubs will compete in one unified league table, rather than being separated into individual groups.
Each team will play six regionally drawn fixtures between September and December:
Three matches at home
Three matches away
Six different opponents
How points will be awarded:
Three points awarded for a win
Matches that are level after 90 minutes will go directly to a penalty shoot-out. The shoot-out winner will receive two points, while the losing team will earn one point.
How do teams qualify for the knockout rounds?
Once all six rounds of League Phase fixtures have been completed, the eight highest-ranked clubs in the overall table will progress to the knockout stages.
League position will also determine each club’s quarter-final opponent:
1st vs 8th
2nd vs 7th
3rd vs 6th
4th vs 5th
The quarter-finals will take place across 13th and 14th January 2027.
The winners will then advance to the semi-finals on 10th and 11th February 2027, with the higher-ranked team from the League Phase receiving home advantage.
The semi-final structure will be:
Winner of 1st vs 8th against winner of 4th vs 5th.
Winner of 2nd vs 7th against winner of 3rd vs 6th.
The 2026/27 Subway Players Cup final will be staged at a neutral venue over the weekend of
13th and 14th March 2027.
