London City Lionesses continue to develop goalkeeping department

London City Lionesses First Team Goalkeeping coach, Nikita Runnacles, will return for the upcoming 2021/22 season joined by the team's newly appointed goalkeeping coach, Matt Burt.

Runnacles will be continuing as part of Head Coach Melissa Phillips' backroom team as head goalkeeper coach. In addition to her coaching achievements, having recently achieved her UEFA A coaching license, she equally brings a wealth of playing experience. She joined The Pride for the 2020/21 season after a spell at Ipswich.

Runnacles will be working with The Pride whilst also balancing her commitment as GK Coach for the England Youth National Teams.

The Lionesses are proud to welcome Matt Burt who has worked with Charlton Athletic FC at both a senior and academy level. Burt has vast knowledge working in football with over a decade worth of experience. Burt will be joining Runnacles in providing support to Phillips' coaching staff to ensure our players receive the best training possible.

Discussing the growth of the Lionesses staff, General Manager Edward Gallagher said, "Nikita played a key role within our technical staff this season and is a fantastic resource for Melissa.

"This was evident in the performances of our goalkeepers this season resulting in a club record clean sheet run.

"Her experience at a national team level and contacts within the game make her a key part of moving forward at London City Lionesses."

Gallagher continued, speaking on newly appointed goalkeeper coach Matt Burt, he said, "Matt joins us with an abundance of experience at both senior and youth level.

"He brings high level enthusiasm to his coaching and again will be key as we look to develop a steady string of goalkeepers coming through the Club."
