The two high-profile arrivals mark another significant step forward in the club’s preparations for our first season in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Zelem, 29, is renowned for her ability to dictate matches from midfield. She arrives with a strong CV, twice winning the Women’s Super League with Liverpool, captaining Manchester United to FA Cup glory, and finishing runner-up for England during the 2023 World Cup.

Her passing range, composure in possession, and expertise from set pieces make her one of the most consistent midfielders in the women’s game. Off the pitch, her leadership qualities and high standards have earned respect across club and country.

Kennedy, 30, brings over 100 caps for the Matildas and a wealth of experience across the NWSL, WSL, and A-League to our ranks. Comfortable as a centre-back or defensive midfielder, she has WSL experience at Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City, and has played in multiple major tournaments for Australia, notably three World Cups and three Olympic Games.

Known for her aerial strength, composure on the ball, and ability to organise a backline, Kennedy adds resilience and leadership to our strong defensive unit.

Zelem is delighted to get started at London City: “I’m really excited to sign for London City and can’t wait to get going.

“I think being the first independent team in the WSL is an amazing achievement, it feels like since I joined the league, the growth in women’s football has been exceptional. I really can’t wait to be a part of this club.

“Hopefully I can bring a lot of experience, knowledge and some good football to the team.”

Speaking on the move, Kennedy said: “I’m really excited to be part of such an amazing club with great impressions. I can’t wait to meet everyone and get the season started.

“I’m excited to be part of such a historic season for the club.

“The ambitions of the club and what they want to do – win trophies and titles – as a player that’s what you want to do.

“It’s something that is going to take time to build, I’m excited to be a part of the early stages of this project and hopefully we can have a lot of success this season.”

Both players will link up with their new teammates ahead of our final pre-season clash against Leicester City, as we continue to build a squad ready to compete at the highest level.
