London City Lionesses Appoint Eder Maestre as Head Coach

London City Lionesses are delighted to confirm the appointment of Eder Maestre as the club’s new Head Coach.

The 39-year-old Spaniard has signed a contract through to summer 2028 and will take charge of his first fixture on Sunday 11 January, when the Lionesses face Liverpool in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Maestre arrives in London with extensive experience at the highest level of women’s football in Spain. Most recently, he served as Head Coach of CD Tenerife Femenino, competing in Liga F, where he guided the Canary Islands side through their tenth consecutive season in the top flight.

Prior to this, Maestre spent three seasons as assistant coach at Real Sociedad Femenino. During that period, Real Sociedad finished second in Liga F, securing qualification for the UEFA Women’s Champions League, and went on to reach the Copa de la Reina final in the 2023/24 season.

While at Real Sociedad, Maestre also worked closely with current London City Lionesses players Elene Lete and Sanni Franssi.

Maestre previously held sporting and technical management positions at Zalla and Sestao River. Earlier in his coaching career, he served as methodology director for SD Eibar’s youth academy between 2015 and 2016.

Speaking on his appointment, Maestre said:

“I am delighted to join London City Lionesses. I love English football and representing this club is a real honour. In my opinion this project is now the best project in women’s football. The ambitions are very aligned with my values and I’m very excited."
"Solid foundations are already in place here. I think we have all the ingredients to continue creating something very powerful. The first thing is respecting everything the club has already achieved."
"Our aim now is to work together to reach our goals in the next stage of London City’s development. Our fans are going to be huge for us during the second half of the season. I’m really looking forward to meeting them in January at our away matches at Liverpool and Sunderland, and then at the Copperjax Community Stadium in Bromley against Manchester City. I hope it will be a memorable day for us all to enjoy together.”

London City Lionesses Chief Executive, Martin Semmens, added:

“Eder’s arrival is a significant moment for the Club and we are delighted to welcome him to London City. After a detailed search, it was clear that Eder’s values as a person align with ours, and his vision of what we will see on the pitch will help us reach our ambitious goals."
“Welcome to Eder from everyone associated with London City, and we look forward to seeing supporters at our matches in the coming weeks.”

Maestre brings his experience, philosophy and ambition to London City Lionesses as the club enters an exciting new chapter.
