Lois Joel becomes London City Lionesses first summer signing

London City Lionesses are delighted to announce that Lois Joel has signed with the Pride from West Ham United.

Born in North Finchley, Joel started her footballing journey in the academies of Watford and Arsenal before joining the Chelsea academy.

Things really took off for the full-back when she went out to the States, where she played two seasons for the West Virginia Mountaineers and won the Big 12 Conference Women Soccer Tournament in 2018.

In 2019, Joel would go on to transfer to North Carolina Tar Heels, where she would make 25 appearances.

In that season, The Tar Heels won both the 2019 ACC regular season and 2019 ACC Tournament, and finished runners-up in the 2019 NCAA College Cup final.

In October 2020, Joel returned to our shores, signing for West Ham United.

When asked her thoughts on signing for London City, Joel said:

“I’m really excited to be here, so I can’t wait to meet all the girls and kick the season off.

“For me, I'm looking to come in and make an impact on the pitch, whether that’s by keeping clean sheets or helping out the attack.

“This is a unique club with its own special history, so I can’t wait to get out there and start that push for promotion.”

Head Coach, Melissa Phillips, said on the signing of Joel:

“Lois has experience playing at the highest level in both England and the U.S. college system.

“She comes from cultures with winning mentalities, so we are excited about the perspective and value she will add to our team.

“We are eager to help her find her stride in the transition back to England as we know she has the ability to be such a threat in our attack.

“Lois signing on at London City truly compliments our existing squad while also adding a tremendous amount of value to the position.”
