Since signing with London City in September of 2020, the Jamaican international Atlanta Primus has been a mainstay in the Lionesses attack.
Yesterday’s league match against Coventry United was her second 50th match in a London City shirt for Primus.
In celebration, Primus would find the back of the net for the second time this season, doubling the Lionesses' advantage, and igniting London City to an exceptional first half in Coventry.
For the third time this season, a member of the Lionesses has reached their historic 50th appearance for the club.
Following her 50th outing for London City, Primus reflected on the game, and her time with the Lionesses, stating:
"Delighted to make my 50th appearance for the club and to top it off with a goal & 3 points makes it even more special. A lot of hard work has got me to this point and I’m grateful for those who have supported me throughout this journey so far!"
After struggling to find consistent minutes at Chelsea during the early parts of her career, Primus decided to take her talents to the collegiate level in the United States.
The London native spent four full seasons at California State University, Fullerton in the Big West Conference.
Primus was a star in the attack for the Titans, netting 25 goals along with 24 assists, and being named to a multitude of conference and national awards in the process.
She led her team in total points in her final three seasons, collecting an astounding 64 percent shot-on-target percentage to lead the Titans in 2017.
Primus would leave Cal State at the top of several of the school’s records lists. Her 37 points in her final season in California were tied for the fourth-best in the program’s history.
Following a sensational college career, the 2019 Big West Midfielder of the Year returned to London in the fall of 2020 and would go on to lead the Lionesses in goals with four in her first season in the Championship.
En route to the club’s best finish to a league campaign in 2021/22, Primus appeared in 19 matches and netted three goals along the way, which was third-best on the team.
The 25-year-old hopes to continue to add to her goal tally this season while acting as one of the main creators of the Lionesses attack en route to being one of the catalysts to London City’s promotion to the WSL.
Speaking on Atlanta's accomplishment, head coach Melissa Phillips stated:
“She's an extreme professional. She's a constant voice of driving high standards. She looks after herself and her body and her preparation amongst the top and the group. And she's been a consistent performer for London City over her time and throughout her 50 appearances.
“So, it's a fantastic achievement and it's a real credit to Atlanta’s character and how she's helped drive along the ambitions of the club along.
“A fantastic accomplishment for yet another player to be reaching the 50 appearance milestone. Atlanta joins fellow teammates Harley, Fitzy & Shae in reaching this mark which comes with a tremendous amount of hard work and commitment.
“Atlanta truly embodies the values of the club and has worked diligently to drive standards in her time here. She's been a mainstay in our team and feel the best is still yet to come in her professional career. We are well equipped with players like Atlanta leading the mission at London City.”
