Jocelyn Prêcheur: 'We must continue with the same purpose... which is to get better and better'

Jocelyn Prêcheur left Pinatar Arena with a smile on his face on Friday [9 August].

After a six-day stint leading his London City Lionesses squad through warm-weather training sessions in Spain, the Frenchman spoke about his preseason priorities in an exclusive interview with londoncitylionesses.com.

Here is every word Prêcheur said.

It’s the end of the camp, what are your main takeaways from the week?

Firstly, the girls have worked very well since Monday. We’ve spent a lot of time working tactically on our game project and we will know whether they fully understood or not when we play our next friendly. We also spent a lot of time learning more about each other as we try to create a group. As I have said before, this is probably our biggest challenge because we have a lot of new players from different countries. We need to create a cohesive group and I hope that we will land in England with a group more unified than before.

You often speak about the importance of cohesion, did this week in Spain help?

I talk a lot about new players because our situation is a little unusual – half of the team was here last season and half are new. Even for me, it’s a new situation. However, it also brings a lot of energy and we can feel that – the girls are communicating a lot and trying to merge as a team. This week, our more experienced players did a very good job of making it easier for the younger players to adapt.

Halfway through preseason, how prepared do you feel for our season opener?

First, on the pitch, we need to work on two things – improve our individual technical levels, we have a lot of young players who need to learn and improve. At the same time, we need to build a team that plays efficiently offensively and defensively, so we need to keep going to improve our organisation. As always, we must continue with the same purpose – which is to get better and better as we move forward.
