Hermione Cull: ‘This year is going to be even bigger’

Hermione Cull sat down for an exclusive chat with londoncitylionesses.com on the first day of preseason.

She reflected on recent developments at the Club, including the signing of head coach Jocelyn Prêcheur and the purchase of our training ground.

Here is every word the shot-stopper said.

What was your immediate reaction to the press conference?

It was a little bit of a shock, but it was nice to see that what Michele [Kang] was saying was actually being put in place. It was also a relief to know that coming back it wasn’t going to be up in the air, there were plans in place.

Since joining London City from Arsenal in the summer of 2022, how much has the Club changed?

I got to experience quite a lot in my last season at Arsenal.

Going from the environment at Arsenal to my first professional contract here, when we only trained on an astroturf pitch at the stadium, was a big change. I feel like this is the start of big things and I’m really excited to see where this journey takes us.

What are your personal ambitions this season?

The Club has good plans for me this year and they're making me feel like I'm an important investment for them. Game time is the biggest thing for me, which will be organised between me, [goalkeeper coach Darren Smith] ‘Smudge’ and Jocelyn. Consistency and game time are going to be really important.

Plenty has changed over the summer – but our goalkeeping department is the same as last season. How excited are you to be back on the grass with Grace Moloney, Sophie Hillyerd, and ‘Smudge’?

Definitely very happy, I've missed them a bunch. We have a good dynamic. We're all there for each other. We can have a laugh, but we can also be serious and push each other, which I think is the perfect kind of little group.
