Shortly after the final whistle was blown at Princes Park, London City Lionesses captain Harley Bennett fielded questions from reporters. Here is every word she said:
Harley Bennett, Captain:
How was it in the locker room this week without interim head coach Nikita Runnacles, who is away on international duty with England U17s? I know you have plenty of leaders, yourself included, in the squad...
We obviously missed her – there’s no doubt about that – but I think Luke [Thomas-Arayo], Kim [Dixson], and Jenny [Bindon] have done really well. I think our training sessions have been unreal, the details the coaches provided were excellent, and we felt as prepared as usual.
As you said, we have so many leaders and we really wanted to react from the last result. I think it looked like we were ourselves again today, which should give us a huge amount of confidence for the next games.
Just a quick word on Kyra Carusa's first goal for the Club...
Kyra has been training really, really well.
Aside from her football skills, she’s just an unreal leader. She always brings so much energy and I think she has really lifted the squad since she came in. We’re buzzing to see her score – what a finish it was!
She’s clinical in training, so we’re really pleased for her.
So, it's Bristol City next – how is the mood in the camp?
Even in the last game, we felt like we matched them and had so many opportunities. I’m hoping that we can kind of put right what we felt we should’ve done in the first game.
It’s exciting for the league because I think we are two of the best teams, and it’s great that we get to go head-to-head at such a crucial time in the season. We’re really excited. I can’t wait.
