Harley Bennett signs a new deal with London City Lionesses

London City Lionesses are pleased to announce that Harley Bennett has signed a new deal with the club ahead of the upcoming 2021/22 season.

Bennett played a fundamental role within the team this past season leading as captain, where she started every match of the 2020/21 season at centre-half. Her role as captain, as well as her playing position demonstrated both her versatility and her leadership as she helped lead the team to a straight five-game clean sheet from 20 December 2020 until 28 January 2021.

Bennett netted the game-winning goal with a header over London Bees leading the club to it’s first victory of the 2020/21 FA Women’s Championship season. She also earned herself two SETL Player of the Match awards this past season.

Bennett, 30, joined the Pride in 2019 with a wealth of football playing experience under her belt, following a successful spell with Charlton Athletic.

Head Coach Melissa Phillips said, “Harley is a true professional and has been a fantastic leader for the team throughout the past season. She’s incredibly driven and brings a winning mindset to how she approaches each training session and match. Her heart and tenacity are a constant and we look forward to pushing Harley to the top of her game in the coming year. Thrilled she’s returning to London City and working with us in pursuit of promotion.”

Speaking on the upcoming season and signing a new deal, Bennett said, “I’m delighted to re-sign for London City Lionesses. Our growth as a club & as players under Mel, Cori and all the staff has been massive. I’m very excited to get back with the team and push on from what we built last year.

We have a great core coming back and I can’t wait to see the new additions we’ve added to strengthen the team. I think the coming season is going be a great one for women’s football and I’m feeling super privileged to be a part of that. I’m just ready to put in the work.”
