Georgia Brougham: 'Birmingham City clash is massive'

Georgia Brougham is a player you should never bet against.

The 28-year-old produced a performance to remember on Saturday [2 November], anchoring Jocelyn Prêcheur’s London City Lionesses defence to a second straight clean sheet and scoring the afternoon’s only goal to take down Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

After the match, Brougham spoke pitchside with Dan Pentland of WSL Full-Time.

This is every word she said.

Congratulations, scoring the match winner – you must be really pleased?

Yeah, we’re buzzing with the three points. They made it really tough for us, but I’m happy to get the goal and the win for the team.

Talk us through the goal. Chantelle [Boye-Hlorkah] had a similar chance minutes before, was that on your mind before the delivery?

I had a conversation with Chaney and I told her that I was going to make the front post run. Kosse [Asllani] put in a great ball, it fell to me, and yeah ended up in the back of the net.

How difficult is it to come here to play against a side like Sheffield United?

Every match is difficult and that’s the beauty of this league. You can’t underestimate the teams that are at the bottom because anyone can beat anyone on their day. We just had to be patient, play our game, and it worked out in the end.

With Birmingham City next, how will the squad stay level-headed because it feels like it could be a meeting between two of the top teams come the end of the season?

It’s massive, as you say. It’s early on in the season and nothing will change for us – we’ll prepare as we always do and go into the game and play our way. Nothing will change. It’s early on and the result won’t define the season. Obviously, we’re at our home pitch and we’ll want to put on a performance and get the win for the fans.
