“How the players have bounced back from different situations on and off the football pitch has proven their resilience,” London City Lionesses interim head coach Nikita Runnacles said after defeat to Bristol City. “And that was never in doubt for me.”

The Lionesses return to the field of play on Sunday [12 February] against Birmingham City, with more than just three points on the line.

London City’s 11-game unbeaten streak was curtailed by title rivals Bristol City on Wednesday [8 February], meaning the Lionesses travel to the West Midlands with serious desire to produce a response.

“It’s a three-game week for us, so we’re back on the pitch soon,” explained Runnacles at the Robins High Performance Centre. “We’ll reflect on how we performed tonight, but our focus now turns to Birmingham City.”

London City’s bouncebackability will be tested by Birmingham City, who have risen to fourth in the table and have won four of their last five league matches.

The Blues have plenty of must-watch players in their squad, with Jade Pennock and Louise Quinn their primary scoring threats.

Pennock has produced fine form in league play, registering six goals and two assists from the flank. The 30-year-old boasts a wealth of professional experience, with appearances for Doncaster Belles and Sheffield United on her resume.

Quinn, an international teammate of Kyra Carusa, Lily Agg, and Hayley Nolan for the Republic of Ireland, is a major threat from set-pieces and has already found the back of the net four times this season. The 32-year-old has represented seven clubs throughout her career, including Arsenal and Fiorentina.

Lois Joel is the player to watch for #ThePride.

The 23-year-old was awarded the SETL Player of the Match Award for her performance versus Bristol City, which saw her record 15 ball recoveries and a forward pass completion rate of 76 percent.

Midfielder Agg has also been on top form of late, with goals in each of her last two appearances.

With three crucial points in the race for promotion available, it promises to be a high-stakes afternoon in the West Midlands.
