Roaring into the Big League: London City Lionesses Boost Squad Ahead of Barclays Women’s Super League Debut

London City Lionesses, the only independent club in the Barclays Women’s Super League, have announced six new signings so far this transfer window. The new additions bolster the ambitious squad as they prepare for their first season in the top tier.


Here’s a closer look at the new faces:


Daniëlle van de Donk


Dutch star Daniëlle van de Donk joins from European giants OL Lyonnes on a two-year contract. A UEFA Women’s Euro winner with 171 international caps, van de Donk brings elite experience from top clubs across Europe.


She won the Barclays Women’s Super League with Arsenal and went on to lift multiple domestic titles and the Champions League with OL Lyonnes. With over 100 appearances for the French giants and having represented the Netherlands at the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, the dynamic midfielder returns to England to help London City excel in a new era.

Sanni Franssi


A proven finisher with over 30 goals for Real Sociedad, Finish striker Sanni Franssi adds firepower to the frontline, with over 90 caps for Finland and experience at clubs including Juventus, Fortuna Hjørring, and PK-35. She also represented Finland at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025.

Isa Kardinaal


Isa Kardinaal joins from AFC Ajax as one of Europe’s most promising young defenders. The 20-year-old made over 50 senior appearances for Ajax, winning the Eredivisie title and being named Player of the Season. She also brings international experience with the Netherlands from U15 to U23 level.

Teyah Goldie


Following a standout loan spell in the club’s promotion-winning campaign, the 21-year-old defender has signed permanently with London City. She made 24 appearances last season and was named Young Player of the Season for her consistent performances and impact on the pitch.


With international experience at England U15, U19, and U23 levels, Goldie is set to continue her development in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Defender Poppy Pattinson joins with seven years of Barclays Women’s Super League experience, having played for Bristol City, Everton, and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Spanish goalkeeper Elene Lete joins London City Lionesses from Real Sociedad, where she made 50 appearances in Liga F, bringing top-flight experience and composure to the squad.


A former Spain youth international who has also represented the senior national team, Lete strengthens the Lionesses’ goalkeeping ranks ahead of their debut in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
