Match Report: Bristol City 0, London City Lionesses 1.

The Pride put in a gritty and resilient performance to return to the capital with all three points on Sunday afternoon.

London City put in a spirited display against Bristol City at Ashton Gate, securing a 1-0 win in the chilly conditions on Sunday afternoon.

Jocelyn Prêcheur’s side have leap-frogged the Robins following the result, which was courtesy of Megan Campbell’s 62nd minute goal.

The tie got off to a quiet start, with both teams matching each other stride for stride in the early stages.

Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah and Charlène Meyong both had long range efforts in the 12th and 39th minutes respectively, but Fran Bentley was equal to both of them.

Jess Simpson came closest to breaking the deadlock for the hosts. With half an hour played, she caught onto goalmouth scramble, but the attempt looped over the crossbar.

The Robins came close to scoring just eight minutes into the second half through lively forward Lexi Lloyd-Smith. She got in-behind with a fusion of speed and tricky feet, only to be smartly denied by Emily Orman.

Just two minutes later, Lloyd-Smith was inches away from the scoresheet after sharply chasing down Orman, only for the ball to roll past the goal line.

After 62 minutes, Megan Campbell drew first blood for the Pride. She had the most composure in chaotic a six-yard box – bringing down the ball and slotting it into the goalkeeper’s bottom-right corner.

Meyong came close to doubling the London-outfits advantage from point-blank range. She latched onto a loose ball after Bentley parried away an Izzy Goodwin strike, but the Bristol City goalkeeper was quick to recover.

Goodwin’s marauding run in the 84th minute after being unleashed in behind by Rofiat Imuran almost ended in a second for the travelling side, but Bentley was behind it.

Boye-Hlorkah arrowed a shot past the post sixty seconds later as the Pride pushed for a second.

That would be the last time London City threatened the Bristol City goal, as the hosts threw caution to the wind in the final 10 minutes of the tie.

After a gritty seven minutes of added time, which saw substitutes Rofiat Imuran and Connie Scofield make vital interceptions and clearances, the Pride secured the victory.

Jocelyn Prêcheur’s team overcame a home side that were second in the league coming into the fixture with three league wins on the bounce.

It’s now four wins in a row for the Lionesses, who have risen to second in the Women’s Championship in their first league fixture of 2025.

We are on the road again in two weeks’ time, travelling to Westleigh Park to face Portsmouth.

We are next in action at Hayes Lane on the 16th February as we take on Sunderland in our first home game of 2025. We hope to see you there!
