London City are back on the road this weekend, travelling up north to take on Manchester United at the Progress with Unity Stadium.

We come into the game in a strong position in the Barclays WSL table – sitting in sixth place.

The hosts come into this fixture on a stellar run of form, unbeaten in ten games in all competitions, with their last loss coming against our sister club OL Lyonnes. They are unbeaten domestically since early November.

It’s a huge test against top opposition, for a London City side that has been growing and improving under Head Coach Eder Maestre.

London City Lionesses

London City Lionesses arrive at today’s fixture with mixed results in 2026, two wins, two losses and a draw.

Last time out, they narrowly lost 1-0 to Everton, despite deserving more from the game, seeing a lot more of the ball and creating more chances.

The week before that, they beat Brighton & Hove Albion away from home, courtesy of a stunning solo goal from Freya Godfrey, who is in-form at the moment with two goals in her previous three outings.

Opposition Overview: Manchester United

Manchester United have been in strong form in both domestic and European competition, unbeaten since early November in the WSL, and in ten games in all competitions, with their last loss in all competitions coming against LCL’s sister club OL Lyonnes.

With plenty of stars in their squad, Jess Park, Melvine Malard and Maya Le Tissier remain three that are performing at their best this season.

Park earned picked up a goal and an assist in the reverse fixture against London City, whilst Malard will come into this game off the back of scoring a goal and getting two assists against Atlético Madrid earlier this week.

The French forward also has three assists in her last three WSL appearances.

The Red Devils will be without Anna Sandberg, Ella Toone, Fridolina Rolfo and Leah Galton for this weekend’s fixture, and rotation will be key after beating Atlético Madrid 3-0 in the UEFA Champions League on Thursday night.

The Reverse Fixture

London City Lionesses and Manchester United have only met once before, and it was all the way back in GW2 this season.

Fresh into the Barclays Women’s Super League, we faced Manchester United in our first home game of the season after taking on Arsenal on the opening day.

London City lost 5-1 at home last time out, with Nikita Parris grabbing a goal against her former club. This game represents an opportunity to show how much we have grown as a side since the last time we faced Manchester United.

Press Conference

Read the main headlines from Eder Maestre’s press conference below.

On Team News:

"Delphine (Cascarino) suffered an injury, as mentioned last week, and she will be out for between four and five weeks. We will see how she will recover moving forwards, because she was training very well.

"It’s disappointing as she was training really well with us."

On Defensive Stability:

“We try to be more connected to certain behaviours, being more compact when defending and now we are starting to be more aggressive, like against Everton.

“We need to be more aware of the opponent’s behaviour and how dangerous they can be too.

“We need good out of possession behaviours as well when defending. We recognised on Thursday night how effective Manchester United can be with their chances, and we need to be aware of this.”

On Last Weekend:

“We were very dominant against Everton, we had the best chances, and it was some of the best football this season in the first 60 minutes – not scoring was frustrating.

“Everton managed the result well and we couldn’t score at the end, but we did all we could to score a goal, and when it didn’t come it was frustrating.

“We are working to create the chances and increase the probability to score goals, that comes from creating chances, and the fact we have them is good. We need to be more confident in ourselves.”

On Manchester United:

“This game on Thursday night showed how painful Manchester United can be, even in a tough Champions League game, they are able to win.

“Manchester United is one of the best teams in the competition, not only because when you are watching them you can see all of the dangers and threats that they can create on the pitch, but also because of all of the metrics, they deserve to be in their league position.

“We need to be more efficient in the situations we create and take advantage of these chances.”
