We’re thrilled to announce that Lucy Fitzgerald has signed a new one-year contract with London City Lionesses, extending her career in blue to a record-setting sixth season.
The 23-year-old, a member of our inaugural squad, provided the assist on the Pride’s opening goal and has been an ever-present member of the team since, making 102 appearances in all competitions over the last five campaigns.
“It feels great to be back for another season,” said the Kent-born midfielder, “it’s an incredibly exciting time for the Club and I can’t wait to get started again. With Michele [Kang] coming in and implementing her vision, it feels like the start of something different, with lots of new staff coming in.
“Michele’s ambition for this season is for us to be promoted and every one of us players is truly determined to make it happen. Personally, I want to build on last season, I played and developed a lot, and I want to continue with that.”
Fitzgerald, who represented England as a youth international, featured as a full-back, wing-back, winger, and central midfielder last season, cementing her credentials as one of the most versatile players in the Barclays Women’s Championship.
“Whenever we were in difficult situations last season, Fitzy always brought the single-mindedness to play in any position and do a very good job for us,” said Director of Football Ronald Thompson.
“Lucy is the kind of person who would put the gloves on if we needed her to – and that’s the commitment we need for the journey ahead. She’s a very intelligent player, who always grasps what is asked of her in all of the positions that she has played. She doesn’t hesitate, she puts the Club first and is part of our fabric as a result.
“In the modern game, you don’t find many players who stick around for season six. We’re delighted to have kept Fitzy on our team and we’re excited to see her continue to progress this season.”
Fitzgerald's contract includes the option of a further season in blue.
