London City Lionesses are delighted to announce that Harley Bennett will be remaining as captain, going into the new season.
Bennett was appointed as captain ahead of last season, where she, alongside co-captain Shae Yanez, were instrumental in leading the side across the record breaking campaign.
This year Bennett will continue to have Yanez deputising for her, alongside Amy Rodgers as her on-pitch vice-captain.
Speaking on how it feels to be continuing in the role, Bennett said: “It’s really exciting to be staying on as captain.
“Coming off the back of both our record high finish last year, and the Lionesses winning the Euro’s, it’s just such an exciting time for us.
“For me, being captain is all about making sure that everyone in the side feels valued and part of the team, along with always thinking about ways to help and guide the team as a whole.”
Yet Bennett is not alone in leading and guiding the team.
“It’s great having someone like Shae there to help support me and the rest of the team,” said Bennett.
“She jokes that she’s only there for moral support but she’s so much more than that.
“We have a lot of chats throughout the year on how to support the team and each other, so she’s certainly a lot more valuable than she thinks!”
When asked her thoughts on Bennett’s continuation of the captaincy, Head Coach, Melissa Phillips said:
"Harleys commitment to London City over the four seasons has been unwavering and she is a fantastic representation of our teams core values.
"Her competitive and caring nature brings out the best in people.
"We are delighted for her to continue in her captaincy role for the season ahead.
