Talented 19-year-old goalkeeper Sophia Poor has signed for London City Lionesses from Aston Villa on a deal until the summer of 2028.

Poor is a familiar face around Cobdown Park after spending the second half of last season on loan to London City from Aston Villa.

Poor started in Leicester City’s WSL academy – starting 12 matches. Poor later made the switch to Aston Villa, where she was called into first team action against Chelsea.

She started the following game against West Ham, and her performances were enough to get her nominated for the WSL Player of the Month award.

Poor has played for England at U17 and U19 level, has WSL experience and a BWSL2 champions medal, and it makes for an impressive CV for a 19-year-old.

On loan last season, Jocelyn Prêcheur was clearly impressed with what he saw from Poor: “As a goalkeeper, Sophia has probably the biggest potential I have ever seen.

“I really wanted to keep developing her because she has everything to become the best English goalkeeper in a few years.

“I really believe in her and I am grateful that she trusts us.

“She represents well what we are trying to do at London City.”

The promising 19-year-old goalkeeper matches the manager’s ambitions for her: “It feels great actually [to sign]. I want to break through into the WSL 100%.

“I want to play for this club. I think it’s such a great club, I see the future of this club and I see myself as part of it. I really want to be a part of it.”
