Shae Yanez signs new deal ahead of 2022/23 season

London City Lionesses are pleased to announce that Shae Yanez has signed a new contract, ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Yanez has been an ever-present figure between the sticks for the Lionesses, appearing in all FA Women's Championship fixtures in her two seasons at the club, and racking up seven clean sheets in all competitions in our last campaign.

The Player of the season for 2021/22 and co-captain, it goes without saying just how influential a figure Yanez is at Princes Park, both on and off the pitch.

However, it was the events of the penalty shootout against Birmingham City in the Conti Cup group stage, that saw her enter London City history- saving two and scoring in the same shootout to win it for the Lionesses.

When asked her thoughts on the new contract, Yanez said:

"I’m really excited for the upcoming season.

"We have a lot to build off from last year, so I’m really looking forward to getting back with everyone and continuing to build off what we accomplished last season.

"There’s been so much growth over the last couple of years, so I’m really look forward to what’s in store!"

Speaking on Yanez, Head Coach, Melissa Phillips said:

"We couldn’t be more excited about the return of Shae to our squad. She’s been an integral part of building our success in the club’s short history and equally driven to see us achieve the next step.

"She was a mainstay in goal, with so many crucial saves in route to our highest league finish and first wins against WSL sides. She has a tremendous work ethic, hungry to grow and truly leads by example.

"The best part about Shae is that we feel we have only just scratched the surface of her potential. We look forward to her continued leadership and ability to drive the team forward in the pursuit ahead."
