Shae Yanez re-signs with London City Lionesses for next season

London City Lionesses goalkeeper Shae Yanez has signed a new contract to remain with the FA Women’s Championship club for the 2021/22 season.

The Pennsylvania-born shot-stopper was ever present for London City Lionesses during the 2020/21 campaign and kept seven clean sheets – including five in a row and 509 minutes without conceding a goal – for Head Coach Melissa Phillips’ side.

This stellar form led to the former Washington Spirit number one being named Player of the Season after racking up three SETL Player of the Match awards against Leicester City, Charlton Athletic and Liverpool.

Yanez said: “I’m really excited to be continuing my journey here at London City Lionesses. A lot of things are going in the right direction and we must continue to grow and compete each and every day.

“I’m looking forward to another great year to develop as both a player and, most importantly, a person.”

Phillips, who was named FA Women’s Championship Manager of the Month in January when Yanez was delivering five consecutive shutouts, lauded her outstanding attitude to training.

"Shae is an exceptional competitor,” said Phillips.

“Her training habits are second to none and she always demands more of herself and teammates. She has grown tremendously throughout the past year both on and off the pitch as a professional.

“We look forward to working with her throughout the next year as she is an integral part of our promotion pursuit."
