Match Report: London City Lionesses denied by late Durham equaliser

Durham struck in injury time to deny London City Lionesses a hard-fought win in the Barclays Women’s Championship, drawing 2-2 on Sunday [18 February].

Darren Smith made one change to the side that was beaten by Arsenal on Wednesday [14 February], replacing Izzy Groves with Ruesha Littlejohn in central midfield.

London City started brightly and quickly established a foothold in the match, with Connie Scofield and Littlejohn orchestrating play from the middle of the park.

Nicole Douglas opened the scoring for the Pride in the 14th minute, with her heavily deflected shot bouncing off two defenders before nestling in the bottom corner.

However, the home side’s lead was quickly overwritten, with Amy Andrews capitalising on a defensive miscue to equalise ten minutes later.

Smith made a handful of substitutions after the break, with Maddi Wilde, Niamh Farrelly, Lotta Lindström replacing Lois Joel, Douglas, and Littlejohn.

Lindström marked her debut with what looked to be the winning goal in the 85th minute, scoring with aplomb from the edge of the penalty area, but the Finn’s impressive strike was cancelled out in injury time when Sarah Robson converted from a corner-kick.
