A new competition begins tonight as we head to Meadow Lane to face Leicester City in our opening fixture of the 2026/27 Subway Players Cup, with kick-off at 7:30pm under the lights in Nottingham.

The Subway Players Cup has a new look this season, with the traditional group stage replaced by a six-match League Phase.

Each participating club will play three games at home and three away against regionally drawn opponents, with all 23 teams competing in one overall table. The top eight at the end of the League Phase will progress to the knockout rounds.

London City Lionesses

We head into our first cup fixture of the season with plenty of positives to build on from the opening weeks of our Barclays Women’s Super League campaign.

Two wins from our opening three league fixtures have given Eder Maestre’s side six points

from a possible nine.

The campaign started in style under the lights in Bromley, as we defeated Manchester United 2-1 in front of a record sold-out crowd.

Our first away trip followed at West Ham United, where Daniëlle van de Donk’s second goal in as many games was not quite enough as the hosts secured a narrow 2-1 victory.

Then a dominant afternoon at The Valley saw us return to winning ways in emphatic fashion with a 4-1 victory over Charlton Athletic.

Isobel Goodwin struck twice inside three minutes early on, before Jana Fernàndez restored our two-goal advantage on the stroke of half-time. Nicole Anyomi then added a fourth after the break to complete an impressive away performance.

Now, attention turns to a different competition and the first challenge of our Subway Players Cup campaign.

Opposition Overview: Leicester City

Leicester City begin their own Subway Players Cup campaign tonight following a positive start to life in Barclays Women’s Super League 2.

Rick Passmoor’s side opened their league season with a 1-0 victory away to Sheffield United, before making it two wins from two with an entertaining 4-2 victory over Durham at the King Power Stadium.

Their perfect start came to an end on Sunday, however, as Bethan Roe scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory for Ipswich Town at the King Power Stadium.

That leaves Leicester with six points from their opening three league matches heading into tonight’s cup opener.

The Foxes are competing in WSL2 this season following their relegation from the top flight at the end of 2025/26.

Last Time We Met

Our last meeting with Leicester produced our biggest victory last season.

The Foxes visited the CopperJax Community Stadium in April and took the lead through Shannon O’Brien after half an hour.

Lucía Corrales equalised almost immediately before Isobel Goodwin struck just before half-time to turn the game around. Malou Marcetto added our third, Grace Geyoro made it four in the closing stages and Freya Godfrey completed a 5-1 victory two minutes from time.
