Sophie Hillyerd became the second new arrival of the summer for London City Lionesses on Friday [21 July], signing a two-year contract with the Pride.
The talented shot-stopper arrives at Princes Park on a free transfer from West Ham United of the Barclays Women's Super League, further bolstering Carolina Morace’s squad.
"I spoke to Ron[ald Thompson], the head of recruitment, and he gave a really warm vibe about the place," said Hillyerd of her decision to join London City.
"He showed me the new facility at K Sports [Cobdown] and it demonstrates that the Club has real ambition to push on. I know [Hermione Cull] from a few years back and I really enjoyed working with her in my first training session here."
Prior to her stint with the Hammers, the 20-year-old showcased her abilities at Bristol City, Manchester United, and Charlton Athletic, where her impressive performances earned her an international selection to England Under-19s.
First Team Assistant Coach Nicola Williams added: "Sophie is a young, enthusiastic, and tall goalkeeper who is very confident, commands her area, and is difficult to beat.
"She is very vocal on the field, which makes her the kind of goalkeeper you want behind your squad, stopping goals from going in."
Sophie has joined the Pride – and now it’s your chance.
London City Lionesses is proud to offer family-friendly and affordable season tickets, with prices starting from just £5.45 per match.
