The Cameroon international midfielder inked a two-year contract at Hayes Lane and arrives in the Barclays Women’s Championship from Stade de Reims of the French Première Ligue, subject to the usual regulatory processes.

“I decided to join London City because the project the coach proposed to me is interesting, especially the task before us this season," said Meyong.

"I also wanted a new challenge and I am excited to play in England. I like challenges, competition, hard work, and – above all else – respect.

"Victories are very important to me. I will always [look to] adapt to the coach’s system. If he asks me to attack, I will attack. If he asks me to defend, I will defend. I prefer to do whatever is best for the team.”

The 25-year-old, who made her senior international debut in 2018, is a mainstay for Cameroon, scoring once in 22 matches for the Indomitable Lionesses.

Meyong’s international career includes appearances in the Round of Sixteen at the 2019 FIFA World Cup, the Third-Place Playoff at the 2018 CAF Africa Cup of Nations, and the Final of the 2018 Council of Southern African Football Associations Tournament.

“I’ve known Charlène for a very long time now, we worked together in China and I followed her career in France,” explained head coach Jocelyn Prêcheur. "When she joined Reims, I coached against her for two years and her physical and technical skills are clear to see.

“Charlène understands our sporting project and style of play. In our squad, she is the exact profile we need and we are very happy to welcome her to London City.”

Meyong, whose contract includes the option of a further season in blue, started her club career in the Cameroonian Women’s Super League with Louves Minproff, before transfers saw her represent Meizhou Hakka (China, D1) and Stade de Reims (France, D1).
