London City Lionesses Appoint Edward Gallagher as new General Manager

London City Lionesses have today made another key appointment, ahead of the 2020-21 season start, with the appointment of Edward Gallagher as General Manager.

Glaswegian, Gallagher starts with The FA Women’s Championship side today, bringing a breadth of experience both on and off the pitch, specifically within women’s football, gained in Scotland, USA and Finland.

A graduate of The University of Strathclyde and University of Edinburgh Edward joins from Rossvale Football Club where he was Head of Women’s and Girls Football and 1st Team Manager. Edward previously worked at Celtic FC, where he held roles including Women’s Development Team Manager, Girls’ Academy Operations Manager and a spell as Interim 1st Team Manager. In Finland he was part of the backroom team at Åland United in the Finnish Naisten Liiga and worked on a UEFA Women's Champions League Qualifying tournament. He gained his women’s football experience in the US whilst at the University of California Santa Cruz.

Commenting on his appointed Gallagher said, "I am very excited and extremely grateful for the opportunity to join London City Lionesses ahead of the new campaign. From early discussions with members of the board, I was instantly drawn in by the forward-thinking plans and the overall ambition of the football club to be a major player within the women’s game. The club have recruited a high-level coaching team and a strong playing squad for this season meaning the potential for the club is now higher than ever.

“I’m looking forward to working closely with the board, staff, players and most importantly the supporters to ensure that London City Lionesses can offer a high-level product both on and off the field. I’m looking forward to our first game of the season and I’m confident we will be able to welcome fans into Princes Park as soon as it’s safe to do so!”

He comes to us with a wealth of experience, particularly in the development of women’s and girls’ football. We are very exciting that the knowledge and expertise be brings which will help us to develop our pathways and networks, as well as ensuring we have the best possible environment for our first team’s success.”

Former General Manager, Jack Heaselden, has relocated due to family commitments, but will work alongside Gallagher through September to ensure a smooth handover.

Culligan was full of praise for Heaselden saying, “We would like to say a huge thank you to Jack for all his hard work during our inaugural season. He’s been at the heart of our London City Lionesses family and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours. We’ll certainly miss him, and he’ll always be welcome back to Princes Park.”
