Lionesses to face Sheffield United at home on Sun 6th Sept in their opening fixture

The FA have today released the first two rounds of fixtures for the new FA Women’s Championship and the Lionesses will start their campaign at Princes Park Stadium against Sheffield United on Sunday 6th September at 2pm.

Finishing fourth last season the Lionesses with face a Sheffield side hungry to make their mark after finishing runners up to Aston Villa who claimed the promotion spot.

As pre-season continues, Coach Lisa Fallon spoke about how preparations have been going along with her thoughts ahead of the first game.

"So far, I'm really happy with how our pre-season has gone. The players have been really focused and it's been great for everyone to be back on the pitch after such a long period on the sidelines.

"The energy levels have been high and also the work rate so it's important that we continue this as we build towards the first weekend in September.

"We're all really looking forward to getting the season started. It's great to have our first game at home, obviously not in front of our supporters, but we know they will be in our corner remotely.

"We know Sheffield United are a great team and were very close to getting promoted last season. They've had a change in manager also and have brought in some fresh faces so we know it will be a tough game.

"It's a great challenge for us, but really, we need to just focus on ourselves and our own preparation and that's what we will continue to do over the coming weeks.

"It's great to finally have some competitive fixtures to look forward to and get the league back up and running.

"I would also just like to commend everyone at the FA for all their support over the past few months in terms of getting us back to this point. They've been unprecedented times and a real challenge for everyone and their support has been vital."

With the season starting behind closed doors we’re sad not to be able to welcome our fans just yet, but you can follow #ThePride and keep up to date with how the Lionesses’ are
