London City Lionesses are delighted to confirm the signing of versatile Danish international Janni Thomsen on a two-year deal.

Thomsen arrives from National Women’s Super League (NWSL) outfit Utah Royals FC and has previously played in Denmark and Norway.

In her debut NWSL season, Thomsen made 26 appearances for Utah Royals, starting 20 matches and scoring three goals.

Primarily deployed at right-back, the 26-year-old quickly established herself as a key member of the squad in one of the world's most competitive women's leagues. She has featured 11 times during Utah’s current campaign.

Thomsen began her football journey with Team Viborg before making her senior debut for VSK Aarhus.

She quickly became one of the Danish Women's League's brightest young talents, reaching 51 appearances and scoring 14 goals between 2017 and 2020. Her performances helped VSK Aarhus secure a third place finish in 2019 and attracted interest from clubs across Europe.

In the summer of 2020, Thomsen joined Norwegian champions Vålerenga, where she enjoyed the most successful spell of her career. Over five seasons, she featured 100 times in the league while helping Vålerenga win three Toppserien titles and three Norwegian Cup trophies.

Her versatility allowed her to transition seamlessly between midfield and right-back, while regular UEFA Women's Champions League football further showcased her ability on the European stage. Her impressive performances saw her secure her transfer to the NWSL in 2025.

Internationally, Thomsen progressed through every level of Denmark's youth system before earning her senior debut in 2020. Since then, she has become an established member of the Danish national team, representing her country at UEFA Women's EURO 2022, the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 and UEFA Women's EURO 2025.

Thomsen said: “I’m very proud to join London City.

“I have always wanted to play in the Women’s Super League. For me this is the best league in the world. I’m excited to learn and experience this type of football.

“Last year, I moved to the USA which has been a great experience, now I feel ready for this adventure here in England which I’m really looking forward to.

“This project is a serious project. They have big ambitions.

“I’m excited to come home to Europe and to get started.

“In terms of my style of play, I have always wanted to be a player who fights hard for the team, works hard and brings a high intensity.

“Our fans are so important. We are all determined to work hard for the shirt and I personally can’t wait to get started and meet you all.”

Janni is there for what comes next. You should be too.

Be there for what comes next – the countdown to 2026/27 is on.

More games. More moments. More to be part of.
