London City Lionesses are thrilled to announce the arrival of forward Kyra Carusa on a permanent transfer from HB Køge, the two-time champions of Denmark.
The Republic of Ireland international joins the Pride with an impressive résumé which includes appearances in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, Danish Elitedivisionen, and American NCAA.
Carusa, who stays within the Capelli Sport family after her switch from the Swans, is excited to make her mark in the Barclays Women’s Championship and will train with her new teammates for the first time tomorrow.
"It's always been a dream of mine to play in England," said the 2022 Elitedivisionen Most-Valuable Player. "And I have always said that I want to be a part of a programme that is doing something historic or playing for something bigger than wins and losses.
I feel like London City is a programme that really met the requirements and the standards that I was looking for. I didn't want to miss out on the opportunity to do something historic again and that's why I'm here.
"I'm excited to have the opportunity to compete, play highly competitive games, and make a difference for London City right off the bat."
The 27-year-old joins London City after securing a historic repeat with HB Køge, for whom she recorded 43 goal contributions (30 goals, 13 assists) in 57 top-flight appearances at the Capelli Sport Stadion.
Carusa also enjoyed a productive career at the collegiate level, amassing 78 goal contributions (35 goals, 33 assists) in 94 appearances for Georgetown University and Stanford University.
"It's fantastic news for the Club," said interim head coach Nikita Runnacles. "This is a player who we have been watching for a couple of years and have been excited about the prospect of her potentially becoming a London City player.
"We're delighted to get this over the line and for her to feature at a really crucial point in our season. Her character reflects the values of the Club, with how she is and what her personal ambitions are.
"We're excited to see what she can produce here. I'm sure she will fit in quickly and be ready to put on a London City shirt as soon as possible."
San Diego-born Carusa, who qualifies to represent the Republic of Ireland through her grandparents, has scored twice in eight appearances for the Girls in Green, with her success stemming from her penalty area prowess.
"She works hard," Runnacles said when asked to describe the Irishwoman's key attributes. "We know that we're going to get work-rate and leadership on and off the pitch, but her goalscoring, creativity, and hold-up play speaks for itself.
"She's going to be a really exciting player for us, which will add a couple more dynamics to how we play."
London City Lionesses would like to welcome Kyra to the Pride and wish her every success for her career in blue.
