London City are proud to announce the signing of two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas, marking a landmark moment for the club.

The Spanish international has joined the Barclays Women’s Super League side, becoming an integral part of the Kynisca global ecosystem.
One of the most decorated players in the history of the game, a World Cup champion, two-time Ballon d'Or winner, and multiple-time Women's Champions League winner, Putellas brings elite standards and a track record of winning at the highest level.
Her move to London marks the next chapter of a remarkable career, with the ambition to compete for the biggest titles at the highest level while helping to shape the future of the women's game and the next generation.

“I am thrilled to embark on this new chapter with London City Lionesses,” said Putellas.
“The club’s ambition and its steadfast commitment to growing as a women-only independent club resonate deeply with me.
"I look forward to making an impact on the pitch as we challenge for titles.
"Off the pitch, building on my passion for youth development, I am equally excited to work with Michele in elevating women’s football in England and on the global stage.”

Michele Kang, owner of London City and Kynisca, highlighted the broader significance of this move: “Alexia Putellas embodies the pinnacle of talent, dedication, and vision in women’s football. Her decision to join our independent, women-first club is a powerful endorsement of what we are building at London City and Kynisca.
"This is more than a signing, it is a bold statement about the future of the sport. Together, we will compete at the highest levels while creating new commercial opportunities and development pathways for the next generation of female athletes.”
This signing marks another major step forward for London City. Having secured promotion to the WSL in just one season under Kang’s leadership, the club continues to establish itself as a beacon of innovation and independence.

Putellas’ arrival is expected to drive significant growth in fan engagement and attendance, both for the club and across the WSL. Her presence will also strengthen the club’s academy and youth development programmes through world-class mentorship and inspiration.
With a squad, sporting leadership and performance staff being deliberately built to elite standards, backed by a new state-of-the-art training centre designed specifically for female athletes and set to open soon, London City is poised to compete at the highest level while serving as a leading platform for the wider advancement of women’s football in England and globally.
The wait is over, our new No. 11 is here.
